Start Your Affiliate Marketing Business With WHY

Do you want to build a profitable online business? If so, start your affiliate marketing business with your WHY. Your WHY helps differentiate you from everyone in your niche. Simon Sinek is a best-selling author of 5 books and one of the most popular TedX speaker of all time.  In his book START WITH WHY he explains how to truly differentiate yourself from your competitors by using what he calls The Golden Circle. So the first place to start your new online business or revamp your existing affiliate marketing business is to begin with “Why”. In this post I will help you determine your WHY.

Definition of WHY

Simon Sinek defines WHY as a sense of purpose, cause or belief that inspires people and builds an emotional bond which in turn builds locality. Locality and emotional connection between you and your audience is the key to making a steady stream of sales. Sales are how you earn a commission as an affiliate marketing.

You may be asking “How does having a purpose (your WHY) apply to building a profitable online/affiliate marketing business?” The answer is that marketing is an influence that brings about a sale or action.

Your WHY as your purpose, cause or belief. WHY does your company exist? WHY do you get out of bed in the morning? And why should anyone care?

Sinek uses the Apple corporation as an example and says Apple is the best at communicating their WHY.  Their WHY is the reason that Apple has the most devoted customer on the planet. They will stand in line for hours in the snow, sleet, rain or heat to buy the newest iPhone when first released. Even though, it will be available everywhere within a week.

I quote Sinek as he uses Apple as a company that operates according to their WHY:

“If Apple were like most other companies, a marketing message from them would move from the outside in of The Golden Circle. It would start with some statement of what the company does or makes, followed by how they think they are different or better than the competition, followed by some call to action. With that, the company expects some behavior in return, in this case, a purchase. A marketing message from Apple, if they were like everyone else, might sound like this ‘We make great computers, They’re beautifully designed, simple to use and user-friendly. Wanna buy one?’

“Let’s look at the Apple example again and rewrite the example in the order Apple actually communicates. This time the example starts with WHY. ‘Everything we do, we believe in challenging the status quo. We believe in thinking differently. The way challenge the status quo is by making our products beautifully designed, simple to use, and user -friendly, And we happen to make great computers, Wanna buy one’.”

Apple’s drive is to inspire users. Apple stands for something and It’s something their users have identified with.

Wikipedia Says This About Your “WHY”

Wikipedia: Start With Why by Simon Sinek outlines Simon Sinek ‘s book START WITH WHY as follows:

“The book starts with a comparison of the two ways to influence human behavior: manipulation and inspiration. Sinek argues that inspiration is the more powerful and sustainable of the two.”

When you start with WHY there is no need for sleazy sales tactics. Your WHY when well communicated will build know, like and trust.

When you communicate you WHY effectively, you begin to attract like-minded people. Help them solve their niche related problems. Use empathy, walk in their shoes, do your utmost to offer a solution to their pressing niche need. Once you build know, like and trust you can then offer a paid solution for their problems and many will buy.

Continue to nurture your relationship with your audience, prospects and customers by continuously providing free top quality value. Do everything within your power to continue to build know, like and trust. Customers who trust you will become true fans.

True Fans will buy from you time and time again because they have a shared belief in your WHY (purpose, cause or belief).

Understand and build your business on Why and the Golden Circle

When talking about building on purpose (WHY) George Kao suggests this;

  • Focus on building an engaged audience
  • Think about how you can give and serve
  • Meet people where they are (Facebook, twitter, youtube, etc.)
  • Give your information freely don’t require their email
  • Sign up to your email list should be voluntary not mandatory to get your best content.
  • When building your email list – think of it as a service on convenience to your audience which builds Know, Like and Trust.
  • Focus in terms of giving relevant authentic content and allow your audience to spread the word for you.
  • Once you establish know, like and trust it is time for you to ask for the sale by gently recommending a product or service that you use yourself or are confident will help solve a problem for your audience.

Ask yourself this question

“How do I connect with my audience in a way that evokes emotion and a sense of being part of something bigger?”

Building an affiliate marketing business with a strong WHY means that you will not have to scramble for traffic. Must online marketers focus on a continual stream of new traffic. But, if you build your audience by preaching your WHY and rallying a fan base of 1000 true fans you will not have to be seeking that ever elusive key to endless traffic.

You will instead be selling over and over to your core group of true fans. It is far easier to sell to an established customer than to go out and find new prospects and try to sell to them.
